Gina Gatarin

I am a PhD candidate (submitted) in the Joint PhD Programme between the Institute for Culture and Society, Western Sydney University and the Environmental Sustainability Programme, University of Ferrara. My PhD research dealt with the traffic problem in Metro Manila, Philippines focusing on the political and cultural aspects of transport governance and civil society participation to transport reforms and innovations. In 2022, the Regional Studies Association (RSA) awarded my paper Designing Cities for Dignified Commuting: Watersheds of Hope in Metro Manila, Philippines’ Traffic Situation the Paul Benneworth PhD Student Award. Before doing my PhD, I was a Senior Field Manager at the Innovations for Poverty Action and an Assistant Professor at the Department of Sociology, University of the Philippines – Diliman. I finished my MA in Development Studies from the International Institute of Social Studies, Erasmus University Rotterdam and BA in Sociology from the University of the Philippines – Diliman.
