I’m currently working at the University of Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning. My research interests include urban agriculture, sustainable, urban food. My recently completed PhD thesis focuses on understanding the role of urban agriculture in the transformation process of the contemporary city, especially in Kunming, Yunnan Province, China. In the urbanisation process, both top-down and bottom-up urban agricultural practices can be identified in informal and formal settlements. The space type, function, physical form and related rules/regulations of these urban agricultural practices show similarities and differences according to the preference of the stakeholders. This research employs urban agriculture as a lens to understand how people adapt and negotiate the private and public spaces in the urban context.
